Where is the Real Zion? Where is Zion? Does anyone know? Is it on earth? Was it ever on earth? Will it ever be on earth?
Psalm 87: "A
Psalm of the Sons of Korah. A Song. On the holy mount stands the city He
founded:
Kings I 8:1
Then Solomon assembled the
elders of Israel, …that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of
the LORD out of the city of David, which is Zion. Zion is
the City of David. The Zion of prophecy is the city of our great King,
the Son of David.. Then where is Zion? It may be just as wise to ask,
“Where is Eden,” or “Where is heaven?” We do not know where this Zion
is. But is has nothing to do with the corrupt “Zionist” movement that
triggers the imagination of end-time theologians. Both Zion and
Jerusalem are spoken of in prophecy. We know for sure where the earthly
Jerusalem was and is, but we cannot discern the whereabouts of Zion. It
is always related to Jerusalem, but this does not prove it part of the
real estate in Jewish history known as Jerusalem. “Glorious
things are spoken of you, oh City of God. And of Zion it will be said,
“This and that one was born in her, and the highest Himself shall
establish her.” Are not the righteous, the redeemed of the Lord, born
in Zion? Is this not the second birth spoken of by Jesus? Is not the
church the temple of the Lord? Are we not his habitation? Does he not
dwell there? Joel 3:16 The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more. Zion
could be the greatest mythology of the Bible, but it is not mythology
because it is real. It is more real than this present age. This earth
will be long gone and Zion will go on. Zion is either on a mountain or
it is the mountain. It is the refuge of the righteous, the abode of
God. The mountain cannot be shaken. The mountain is spoken of when the
kingdoms of this earth are destroyed by it. (Dan. 2:35). It reaches into
the heaven of heavens. The pilgrimage for Zion should consume the soul
interested in God or in eternal life. He will not rest until he has
entered the gates of the heavenly Jerusalem, the Zion spoken of in the
Bible prophecies.
Psalm 48:1
A Song and Psalm for the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly
to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on
the sides of the north, the city of the great King. v:12 Walk about
Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof. Mark ye well her
bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation
following. For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our
guide even unto death. However,
the church as seen on earth is not Zion, nor will it ever be. As God’s
judgment came down on earthly Israel so that the Gentiles could access
the promises given to Jacob, even so the curses fall upon those of the
church who are false brethren.
Micah 3:11
Its heads give judgment for a bribe, its
priests teach for hire, its prophets divine for money; yet they lean
upon the LORD and say, "Is not the LORD in the midst of us? No evil
shall come upon us." Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a
field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the
house a wooded height. But we have a better covenant with the Most Holy God. Micah 4:1 It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised up above the hills; and peoples shall flow to it, and many nations shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. He shall judge between many peoples, and shall decide for strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more; Romans 9:30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, righteousness through faith; but that Israel who pursued the righteousness which is based on law did not succeed in fulfilling that law. Why? Because they did not pursue it through faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, as it is written, "Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make men stumble, a rock that will make them fall; and he who believes in him will not be put to shame." Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened. For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be justified.
Hebrews 12:22
But you have come to Mount Zion and to the
city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable
angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the first-born who
are enrolled in heaven, and to a judge who is God of all, and to the
spirits of just men made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a
new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more graciously
than the blood of Abel. See that you do not refuse him who is speaking.
For if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on
earth, much less shall we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.
His voice then shook the earth; but now he has promised, "Yet once more
I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven." This phrase, "Yet
once more," indicates the removal of what is shaken, as of what has been
made, in order that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore let us
be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let
us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe; for our God
is a consuming fire. Let brotherly love continue. Psalm 133: A Song of Ascents. Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down upon the beard, upon the beard of Aaron, running down on the collar of his robes! It is like the dew of Hermon, which falls on the mountains of Zion! For there the LORD has commanded the blessing, life for evermore. - Chris Simonson We encourage you to email the author to prove or disprove, from the Scriptures, the intent, meaning, purpose or doctrine of this piece. email Chris |
